Remote Loan Closing FAQ

What is a loan signing, and how is it different from general notarization?

A loan signing involves notarizing mortgage-related documents, such as loan agreements, deeds, and disclosures. Unlike general notarizations, loan signings require extra attention to detail to ensure accuracy, as errors can delay the closing process.

What types of loan documents can you notarize?

We notarize various loan-related documents, including mortgage agreements, refinancing documents, home equity lines of credit (HELOCs), loan modifications, seller/buyer closing packages, and reverse mortgage documents. If you’re unsure whether your document requires notarization, check with your lender or title company.

What should I have ready for my remote loan signing?

To complete your loan signing smoothly, you'll need:

  • A valid government-issued ID for identity verification
  • A stable internet connection and a device with a webcam and microphone
  • Your loan documents, provided by your lender or title company
  • Any specific instructions from your lender to ensure compliance

Will you explain the loan documents to me?

As a notary, I can verify your identity, witness signatures, and ensure documents are completed properly. However, I cannot provide legal or financial advice or explain the terms of your loan. If you have questions about the content of your documents, please consult your lender or attorney before the signing.

How long does a remote loan signing appointment take?

A remote loan signing typically takes 45 to 75 minutes, depending on the number of documents and signers. To help streamline the process, please review your documents in advance and have everything ready before the session.

Do I need to be physically present with the notary for a loan signing?

No, remote loan signings are conducted entirely online through a secure platform. You’ll meet with me via video conference, verify your identity, and sign your documents digitally, all from the comfort of your home or office.

Can my spouse or co-borrower sign remotely too?

Yes, if multiple signers are involved, they can join the same session from different locations. Each signer will need to complete identity verification separately and have access to a device with a webcam and internet connection. Additional signer fees may apply.

What if I make a mistake on my loan documents?

If an error occurs, corrections can often be handled electronically, depending on your lender’s policies. If a new notarization session is required, additional fees may apply. To avoid mistakes, carefully review your documents before signing.

Will my lender accept a remote notarization?

Most major lenders and title companies now accept remote online notarizations (RON), but policies may vary. It’s always best to confirm with your lender before booking your session to ensure a smooth process.
